Iceland came out on top with their Maison de la Rougerie Brut Crémant de Bordeaux - being priced at a mere £8.75. This bottle of Maison de la Rougerie Crémant de Bordeaux has been made by traditional method. It offers fine bubbles and light yellow color, with white fruit flavours. It will partner well with salads, seafood or dessert.

Second cheapest is that from Aldi. The Nicolas De Montbart Champagne, £10.99. It’s an elegant and easy drinking aperitif style Champagne with fruit and floral notes. This traditional blend of equal parts Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier gives a subtle elegance on the palate.

The most expensive from this list is from Marks and Spencer, priced at £45. The Lanson Extra Age Brut Champagne. With aromas of fig, pear and dried fruit, combine with honey, brioche and sweet spices, creating a powerful and complex aromatic palate.

What’s the difference between champagne, cava and prosecco?

Even though they are all types of sparkling wine, each is very different when it comes to taste and how it’s made.

Champagne

Champagne is a French sparkling wine. The term 'Champagne' can be used as a generic term for sparkling wine, but in the EU and some countries it is illegal to label any product Champagne unless it came from the Champagne wine region of France and is produced under the rules of the appellation.

Cava

Cava is a sparkling wine of Denominación de Origen status from Spain. It may be white or rosé - which has become a popular option over the years. The Macabeo, Parellada and Xarello are the most popular and traditional grape varieties for producing cava.

Prosecco

Prosecco is an Italian DOC or DOCG white wine produced in a large area spanning nine provinces in the Veneto and Friuli Venezia Giulia regions, and named after the village of Prosecco. It is made from the Prosecco grape but denomination rules allow up to 15% of the wine to be other permitted varieties.
