Here’s how to see the first pink moon of 2025

  • The first full moon of spring, nicknamed the "pink moon," will peak at 8.22 p.m. EDT on Saturday.
  • Despite its name, the moon won't actually appear pink, but gets its name from the pink creeping phlox wildflowers that bloom in early spring.
  • This full moon is also a micromoon, meaning it will appear smaller and dimmer than usual due to its distance from Earth.
  • Viewing conditions in the US will vary, with clear skies expected in the South, Southeast, and parts of the West, while cloud cover may obstruct the view in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
  • For optimal viewing, find a clear, dark location with minimal light pollution, and look towards the eastern horizon.
