Here’s how the Dolphins were credited stats for the ‘Miami Miracle’

“Tannehill. To Stills. To Parker. To Drake. Gronkowski didn’t have the angle!”

This just doesn’t get old, does it? The “Miami Miracle” is still getting buzz seven months later — it’s up for the ESPY Award for “Best Play” later this month. But amid all the hoopla after the Dolphins’ laterals against the Patriots in December, some of the details may have been glossed over.

Here’s one, for example. Travis Wingfield, the host of the “Locked On Dolphins” podcast, posed a question yesterday that didn’t necessarily have a clear answer — at least at first. How did the stats get distributed for the Miami Miracle?

Kenny Stills caught the ball — but from there a series of laterals makes deciphering yardage a very confusing proposition. Dolphins.com writer Alain Poupart provided some clarity.

So Kenyan Drake was credited on the play with 52 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown on the play — without being credited for the reception. The reception went to Kenny Stills, along with the initial 17 receiving yards from the line of scrimmage that started one of the most miraculous finishes in NFL history.

The stat sheet does not recognize DeVante Parker for his contributions on the play — as he pitched the ball back to Drake at the same point on the field where Stills initially caught the football.

If you didn’t know, now you do.
