Here’s how much cap space the Patriots have after one week of free agency

The New England Patriots have found themselves up against the NFL’s salary cap after just one week of free agency. They have $5.55 million left to spend. There are ways for them to free up more space, whether restructuring or extending the current deals for players like Tom Brady.

For now, they’ll work with what they’ve got. They still have a handful of needs at kicker, punter, receiver, tackle and defensive tackle. They will also need to make room for their draft class, which is set to be a big one. While the Patriots can (and surely will) make trades on draft day, they currently have 12 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.

So far in free agency, the Patriots signed running back Brandon Bolden, defensive lineman Mike Pennel, receivers Bruce Ellington and Maurice Harris, tight end Matt LaCosse and safety Terrance Brooks. The Patriots also re-signed Phillip Dorsett and placed restricted free agent tenders on cornerback Jon Jones and receiver Josh Gordon.
