Here’s how Dejounte Murray and the Hawks’ totally ridiculous scuffle with the Rockets led to a blown double-digit lead

What if I told you there was a game where Trae Young and Dejounte Murray combined for 83 points in a single game. You’d think it’d be one the Hawks won, right?

Well, if so, you’d be wrong. That actually happened. But they actually lost to the Houston Rockets, 128-122.

It’d be a reasonable assumption to think that they’d have won this game. We rarely see fantastic performances like this that result in losses. The funny thing is, though, the Hawks were actually in position to win. They led by as many as 16 points in the 3rd quarter.

But then, well, they just lost composure. And it was all behind a scuffle that shouldn’t have happened at all.

Wait, what happened?

So the Hawks and the Rockets got into what amounted to a pretty big scuffle in the 3rd quarter of Friday night’s game. Jabari Smith, Jalen Green, Dejounte Murray and Trae Young were all given technical fouls because of it.

It was not a good look at all.

Why were they arguing?

Again, the Hawks were up by as many as 16 points in the 3rd quarter. Most of it was because of Dejounte Murray, who couldn’t miss from deep. He hit a career-high 8 3-pointers in this game.

After one of them, he tapped Jabari Smith on the head. Totally and completely unnecessary.

Yooooo that's wild

It really is. Murray didn’t get a tech mostly because the officials didn’t catch it. But you know who did? Smith, obviously. He had a major problem with it. And he checked Murray on it, which led to the scuffle.

Here’s what he had to say after the game.

Lil bit of straightening.

The Rockets got the last laugh, though.

Smith and Green went on an absolute tear to lead the Rockets to a win. Smith finished with 21 points and Green dropped in 30. He also waved the Hawks goodbye.

Kevin Porter trolled Trae Young on Instagram, too.

Not a great look at all for the Hawks.

That's so wild. What's up with Dejounte Murray?

No one is really sure. This just seems to be who he is. We saw it with his beef with Paolo Banchero in the Crawsover league. We’re seeing it here now. The only thing is this isn’t a pro-am — it’s the NBA.

Maybe he just hates the 2022 NBA draft class? That’s the only way I can make it make sense.

Regardless of his reasoning, though, everyone roasted him and the Hawks for this.

Yeah, that’s embarrassing. Hopefully, now that they’ve lost behind these antics, we don’t have to see them anymore and the Hawks can just play basketball. Because they’re good and fun. Basketball is better without this kind of stuff in the way.
