Here’s how Case Keenum graded this preseason before being named starter

For the Washington Redskins, acquiring Case Keenum was always about getting Jay Gruden a veteran passer who could execute the offense and simply not lose games.

Keenum’s preseason work resulted in a 90.4 grade from Pro Football Focus, as seen above, and Jay Gruden naming him the starter over rookie Dwayne Haskins.

This one doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Keenum was sharp in his first game while throwing for a score, then finished Week 3 with a 9-of-14 line for 101 yards.

Gruden has worked with comparable veterans elsewhere such as in Cincinnati. On paper, he shouldn’t have a problem seeing what worked for Keenum in Minnesota during his career year and what fell flat last year in Denver.

At least for now, Keenum’s veteran poise within Gruden’s system will hold off Haskins.
