Here’s how Andy Dalton signing affected Bears’ Super Bowl odds

The Chicago Bears keep finding new ways to torture their fans at the quarterback position. Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse than a Mitchell Trubisky vs. Nick Foles quarterback competition, we’re about to get Andy Dalton vs. Nick Foles.

The Bears agreed to terms with Dalton on a one-year deal worth $10 million, as well as $3 million in added incentives. That’s $7 million more than what Dalton signed for last offseason with the Dallas Cowboys, which is also when Chicago first eyed Dalton.

There wasn’t a lot of confidence surrounding the Bears in 2021, but Dalton’s signing seemed to drive the point home. Chicago’s Super Bowl odds took a nosedive after the signing of Dalton, which really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

According to ESPN’s David Bearman, the Bears’ odds went from 40-1 to 50-1 — which factors in losing out on Russell Wilson, who the Seattle Seahawks aren’t trading right now, and the addition of Dalton.

Right now, Dalton figures to be Chicago’s starting quarterback heading into the 2021 season. But it’s also a safe bet that the Bears are going to draft a quarterback. Now whether they decide to trade up to grab one of those top five prospects remains to be seen.

But with general manager Ryan Pace and head coach Matt Nagy’s jobs on the line, you have to assume that’s certainly the most likely option. Otherwise, they’re putting their fate in the arm of Dalton, which isn’t the smartest move.
