Here’s an updated look at the Eagles’ salary cap situation

Eagles VP Howie Roseman has been given the title as the NFL’s top salary cap guru, mastering the wizardry of numbers and analytics, as he currently has the Birds sitting pretty when it comes to available salary cap space. Before the start of free agency, the Philadelphia Eagles and Jacksonville Jaguars were among the two teams in the NFL, with the lowest amount of available cap space.

From the moment the legal tampering period began, Howie Roseman has made some shrewd moves and decisions including bringing DeSean Jackson back to Philadelphia. With those tough decisions now out of the way, Eagles are now sitting pretty for the remainder of free agency or a possible mega deal for Carson Wentz.

According to Field Yates of ESPN.com, the Eagles are amongst the top-15 teams in the league in salary cap space, sitting right above the $21 million thresholds.

According to Over The Cap, that number is significantly more and sits right above $25 million with Alshon Jeffery being the highest cap hit at $14,725,000.

Total Cap Liabilities: $180,289,072Top 51: $160,198,649Team Cap Space: $25,746,474
Offense: $98,074,442Defense: $68,709,207Special: $1,942,500

Here is the bottom half of the league, when it comes to available cap space.

Roseman, the Eagles’ executive vice president of football operations, has either redone or restructured the deal of Rodney McLeod, Brandon Graham, Nigel Bradham, Jason Peters, Jason Kelce, Isaac Seumalo, Lane Johnson, Chris Long, and Ronald Darby.

The Eagles could save another $5.3 million if Chris Long retires or the team releases him. It also should be noted, that $10 million of that space is set aside for the signing of draft picks.
