Fortnite players have woken up this morning to see the entire landscape of the map transformed. Well, at least a significant chunk of it.
The polar opposite (no pun intended) of the desert biome before it, a giant iceberg/castle has appeared in the middle a new ice zone and has spread its chilly winds to probably 25-30% of the map. This has transformed many old areas and created some brand new ones as well.
Here are the highlights of the new map additions:
Polar Peak/Ice Castle
The game identifies the giant iceberg as a mountain, but it’s very obvious that it’s a castle, frozen in ice. Right now we can only see the front gates and a top turret. You can go inside the upper floors of the gates, but not the bottom area.

You can also go inside the turret where you’ll see a little room with some books and a fireplace, which is presumably where the tier 100 Ice King lives.

The torches burn blue in the castle.

It’s easily the highest spot on the map by far now.

Happy Hamlet
It’s a new, little Bavarian town near where Flush Factory used to be (which is now buried in the snow). It’s pretty huge, almost the size of Tilted, if not with a larger footprint, and though I haven’t explored it fully yet, I’m guessing this will be a pretty popular landing spot.

Frosty Flights
The castle is cool, but I might actually find Frosty Flights more interesting. It looks like an airport, but it’s actually an A.I.M. military base.

Does this look like the inside of an airport to you?

I also found out that the Tier 1 skin, Lynx, is apparently a streamer, which is hilarious.

The Frozen Pond Formerly Known As Greasy Grove
The ice castle’s arrival has not exactly been peaceful. Greasy Grove has been completely frozen over, with only the tops of buildings poking out from a sheet of ice that you can slide across.

You can still go inside the buildings by hacking through the ceilings, and then you can see the destruction the ice has caused outside. Pretty cool. I even saw some weapon spawns in the ice you couldn’t get to, hah.

Elsewhere…

There’s a lot I’m going to miss, as it’s just day one, but there’s a submarine on top of mountain, zip lines everywhere, smaller A.I.M. bases places, new structures like giant sleds and turtles. The corrupted areas are healing, growing over with grass. There are ski chairlifts scattered around, but weirdly, not connected by cables. The destroyed building in Tilted is being rebuilt yet again, hilariously (Ice King, leave it alone). There’s a lot going on. Now, to hunt for some secrets…
