Here's a list of Met Eireann 2020 storm names for Ireland and the UK in 2020

Following the choas that was Storm Ciara and Dennis, we've been left wondering when the next big storm is due.

While Met Eireann hasn't predicted anymore any time soon, they already have a list of names ready for the upcoming systems during 2019/2020.

First introduced by Met Éireann and the UK Met Office in 2015, the Name our Storms campaign has helped raise awareness of the threat and impact of severe weather in Ireland and Britain before it hits.

According to weather experts, following the progress of each storm would be easier on the TV, radio and on social media if they were referred to by name, Wales Online reports.

The criteria for naming storms is based on the National Severe Weather Warnings service, which considers the impact the weather may have, and the likelihood of those impacts occurring.

A storm is then named when it has the potential to cause an amber or red warning.

As in previous years, Q; U; X; Y and Z are not used to comply with international storm naming conventions.

The first windstorm to be named was Abigail on November 10, 2015 and the naming process has continued for each season since.

Those chosen for 2020 were revealed by the Met Eireann in September 2019.
