Here is how to pronounce the last name of Rays star Brandon Lowe

If you’re waking up and talking about the two home runs crushed on Wednesday night by Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Brandon Lowe, you should make sure to get his name pronounced right.

Lowe — a 2015 third-round draft pick of the Rays who had 17 dingers in 2019, then broke out in a big way with 14 in 56 games this season — doesn’t have a conventional pronunciation of his last name, like “LOW” or perhaps “LOW-EE.”

Nope. The correct pronunciation is “LAU.”

The Rays have gone as far as to make videos about this with his teammate Nate Lowe (who is Nate “LOW”), just to clear up confusion:

As for why? Lowe has answered that in the past. Via MILB.com:

“Teammates ask us what’s up with that,” Brandon said. “I guess I don’t really know. My family has just always said it that way.”

There you have it. And now you know it’s not “LOW” but “LAU.”
