Helping hands are up for grabs as charities, schools and voluntary groups in Bolton and Southwark are invited to nominate a challenge for the Co-operative's community volunteers to tackle.
Eleven Co-operative Food stores in Bolton and, four in Southwark, London, have teamed-up to pilot a competition that will see four community groups each benefit from an eight-strong community hit squad for the day and, receive £200 towards materials.
From creating a wildflower garden at a primary school to refreshing paintwork in a community hall or youth club, the competition – which forms part of the Co-operative's employee volunteering programme – gives colleagues a chance to support communities where they live and work.
Rachel Hall, operations manager for the Co-operative Food in the North West, said: "Our stores are at the heart of communities and it is important to us that we not only meet their daily food shopping needs but contribute to improving local life too."
While Craig Smith, operations manager for the Co-operative Food in the Southwark area, added: "The Co-operative has always been committed to helping people to change their worlds for the better and this competition gives charities, schools and voluntary groups an opportunity to tell us what we can do in a day that will make a world of difference to them."
Anyone can make a nomination between 9 – 30 October in the Co-operative's participating food stores in Bolton and Southwark.
The winning projects will be notified by the end of November with the community activity taking place in the New Year.
