A couple facing the cancellation of their wedding this weekend due to Newcastle's snap lockdown have refused to let the pandemic ruin their plans, tying the knot in a rushed ceremony instead.
Josh Chodyko and Kerrin Procter were married in the front yard of a Rankin Park home an hour before the city went into a seven-day lockdown.
Their pastor Stuart Brown said the venue was not the only thing that had to be changed — he was waiting on the results of a COVID test.
"We were looking forward to a wedding on Saturday and I was a bit concerned because I had a bit of a sore throat," he said.
"I went and had a COVID test and then I get a message to say they want to get married today, before the lockdown.
Pastor Brown said the street-side ceremony meant they could have slightly more guests as well.
"They weren't going to let COVID stop them getting married and, as well, they wanted to have a few more friends to watch and family as well, so they decided, 'Let's do it today,'" he said.
"They've been very adaptable all the way and I guess there was an anticipation that something might happen, and they've been thinking through different ways that it might need to change.
