Former Broncos safety Will Parks agreed to a one-year deal with the Eagles on Saturday. The one-year contract is worth $1.6 million, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.
He could have signed for more with other teams.
Parks received better offers from the Lions and Vikings, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. The 25-year-old defensive back turned those offers down for a chance to start in Philadelphia, where he was born and raised.
Parks, who goes by “Philly Will” on social media, was selected by Denver in the sixth round of the 2016 NFL draft. He was an excellent rotational defensive back for the Broncos, filling in at safety, cornerback and dime backer over the last four seasons.
Denver has roughly $13.325 million in remaining salary cap space so the team could have afforded to re-sign Parks. It’s unclear if the Broncos made an effort to re-sign Parks but the safety probably would have preferred a chance to start with the Eagles than to continue serving as a backup in Denver.
The Broncos will start Justin Simmons and Kareem Jackson in 2020.
