Apple has unleashed a bunch of data about its app store, which reveals $155 billion in revenue since its debut in 2008, and a new single-day spending record this year with $386 million spent on New Year’s Day alone.
But they’ve also come out with a list of particular interest to the gaming community, a ranked order of the top paid and free iPhone games on iOS for 2019. And I was genuinely surprised with at least one of the #1 slots.
The 10 top free iPhone games of 2019
- Mario Kart Tour
- Color Bump 3D
- aquapark.io
- Call of Duty: Mobile
- BitLife – Life Simulator
- Polysphere – art of puzzle
- Wordscapes
- Fortnite
- Roller Splat!
- AMAZE!!
The 10 top paid iPhone games of 2019
- Minecraft
- Heads Up!
- Plague Inc.
- Bloons TD 6
- Geometry Dash
- Rebel Inc.
- The Game of Life
- Stardew Valley
- Bloons TD 5
- Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
We can see mobile-only titles represented, but also AAA game developers moving in with their own entries as well. I knew that Mario Kart Tour was doing well for Nintendo, but I am genuinely surprised to see it here as literally the most popular free game of the year. I am also equally curious about Pokémon GO falling out of the top list here, as I figured there were still enough people playing it to make it land on a chart like this. Additionally, Niantic’s follow-up AR entry, Harry Potter: Wizard’s Unite, is nowhere to be found either.
Also doing well, Call of Duty Mobile and Fortnite, with COD being a mobile version made specifically for phones, while Fortnite is a 1:1 version of the main game on other platforms, just with mobile-specific controls.
I am happy to see two Bloons games on the top paid chart, as I love that series. I forgot GTA: San Andreas was even on mobile, but I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised to see it in the top ten. And of course, as ever, Microsoft’s Minecraft is still the most popular paid game in the world, and I wonder when that’s ever going to be unseated.
Anyway, this is a good list to reference if you’re looking to check out games that a lot of other people seem to like. I want to give a few of these a shot that I haven’t messed around with yet, and of course, play Bloons for the millionth time.
