Here are the terms for Jason McCourty’s contract with the Patriots

The New England Patriots officially signed cornerback Jason McCourty to his 2020 option, which enacts a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with a $5.55 cap hit, according to The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin.

McCourty gets a $500,000 signing bonus with a salary of $2.65 million. He also gets $800,000 in per-game bonuses ($50,000 per game), which are not guaranteed until he makes the 53-man roster at the start of the regular season. If Patriots cut him before the season begins, he would count as $2.3 million against the cap. It’s a similar contract to what he made in 2019, but New England increased the sum of his incentives for 2020.

McCourty will rejoin the Patriots cornerback group, which includes Stephon Gilmore, J.C. Jackson, Joejuan Williams and Jonathan Jones. They were among the most talented and statistically impressive units in the NFL in 2019, with Gilmore leading the charge as the No. 1 cornerback. McCourty is likely to fall back in as the team’s second or third cornerback, depending upon matchups. He was solid on those roles in 2019, though he suffered a groin injury which limited him impact in the second half of the season.
