Here are the opening times for Bury's only operational tip after waste rules changed over the weekend

Council bosses have announced new rules for the only operational tip in Bury.

On Saturday (June 6), the odd and even number plate system dictating when people could visit tips across Greater Manchester was scrapped.

Throughout the lockdown, the region's bosses had asked drivers to only use recycling centres on specific days related to the final number on their vehicle's licence plate.

But that rule has now been changed to mean anyone can go to the tip whenever it is open, with most items being accepted.

However, there are some restrictions still in place, including at tips in Bury.

An odd and even number plate number system was in place to reduce queues but has now been scrapped (PA)

Bury Council issued new advice to borough residents, asking them to bring proof of address if they go to the tip, and have warned that queues may be 'longer than usual' as centres reopen.

Council bosses asked people to consider these rules before travelling:

  • Only one person allowed out of the vehicle.
  • Please keep two metres apart from other visitors and staff at a household waste recycling centre (HWRC).
  • Only cars and small vans will be allowed on site - no transit type vans and vehicles with trailers.
  • No pedestrian access.

  • You will need to unload your vehicle yourself (HWRC staff will not be able to help you with this).
  • Bring proof of address with you such as your council tax bill, gas or electric bill to show you live in one of the 9 council areas in Greater Manchester. You can show your bill on your mobile phone.
  • Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and CCTV are in operation (trade waste is not allowed).
  • Please make sure you don't block access for other road users (queues may be longer than usual).
  • You can take general waste, garden waste, wood, small bulky items, cardboard, rubble and scrap metal.

The tip now operational in Bury is the Radcliffe HWRC in Cemetery Road. It is open from 8am to 6pm daily.

Bury HWRC in Every Street remains closed until further notice.
