Here are the Kilmarnock roads getting repaired for £5.2 million

Council bosses are due to spend £5.2million fixing East Ayrshire roads over the course of this financial year.

Another £150,000 is to be spent on footpaths, £2m on bridges and £563,000 on safer routes for cyclists and walkers.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance has released a list of all the streets lined up for improvements before April 2021.

Roads staff stopped repairs during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown but began operating again in June after restrictions were eased by the Scottish Government.

Council leader Douglas Reid admitted the local authority was in a race against time to get much of the work completed before the big freeze arrives.

He said: “We are a fair bit behind with it.

“Our roadworks staff were making food deliveries during lockdown and some were also helping with refuse collection.

“Now it is all hands on deck to get as much as the road works done before the harsh winter sets in.”

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance roadworks programme was presented to the Ayrshire shared service joint committee meeting recently.

A report presented to the committee said: “At the start of lockdown a suspension of works was implemented across all networks and depots provided emergency cover only with operational staff allocated to other duties and office based staff working from home.

“All depot staff have now returned and works recommenced on June 22, 2020.”

The roadworks will take place in different parts of East Ayrshire including in the Stewarton, Kilmaurs, Fenwick and Kilmarnock areas. The roadworks programme for Kilmarnock April 2020 to March 31 2021 with estimated cost is as follows:
