Here are the Edinburgh and Lothians schools that have cancelled trips so far

With the recent update from the Scottish Government concerning the coronavirus pandemic, schools across Edinburgh have cancelled any upcoming foreign trips, with others still yet to announce a decision.

The First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, yesterday declared a ban on school trips abroad.

Merchiston Castle have confirmed they have cancelled all excursions planned outwith the community following government health advice.

George Heriot's have also made the same decision, stating: "We have cancelled all foreign trips for this session.

"Our reason is repatriation issues.

"If a pupil, or member of staff, became ill while abroad and had to remain in that country, this would create difficulties for us."

ESMS (Erskine Stewart's Melville Schools) also confirmed that they were aware of the situation.

Linda Moule, Principal at ESMS, said: "The situation surrounding the coronavirus is rapidly evolving and we will follow all Government advice regarding overseas residential trips for schools."

Preston Lodge high school in East Lothian are scheduled to have overseas trips in June, but are waiting for confirmation from the East Lothian council on whether or not these excursions will be cancelled.

St David's school in Midlothian have trips to Italy planned for the summer, but have also not yet confirmed if they will go ahead.

However the Edinburgh schools themselves are staying open for the time being, as the the authorities move into the delay phase.

Several council-run schools are understood to have trips abroad scheduled for May and June.

As of 2pm on Thursday, there are currently 60 cases of the virus in Scotland, with 11 of these in the Lothians.
