It’s the cowboy game: the latest epic from Grand Theft Auto developers Rockstar Games and a sprawling, massive beast of a game that dwarfs even other large-scale AAA offerings. Red Dead Redemption 2 has dominated the conversation surrounding video games ever since release, and while it didn’t sell quite as well as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, it still remains one of if not the most important releases in 2018. It’s got its issues, that’s for sure. But it’s also the prettiest game I’ve ever played, and vista addicts will find no shortage of vistas. If you’re looking to pick it up on Black Friday, you won’t find a ton of deals, but it’s still a marginally better time to pick it up than next week.
Just be warned: the price that you pay for Red Dead Redemption 2 is not so much the $60 but the 60 hours it will take you to push through the slow, self-involved and emotionally taxing story. But enough editorializing from me, let’s look at the best deals on Red Dead Redemption 2 for Black Friday 2018.
The only true discounts on Red Dead Redemption 2 come through Xbox Live and PlayStation network themselves. They don’t let you take anything off the price of the standard edition, but they’re taking the price of the $80 special edition down to $70 and the Ultimate Edition down to $90. These get you some extra in-game trinkets, but for my money, they’re not really worth it. There’s already more stuff in the base game than you can ever really conceive of, and so a few more things doesn’t really make a huge difference.
Other than that, the best deal comes from eBay, which will allow you to bundle Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 and Red Dead Redemption 2 for $70. Which is an excellent deal on two excellent games, so long as you want both of them and don’t already have either.
Best Buy is also offering the game for the $60 MSRP, but with a little collapsible cup. I have this collapsible cup, and I’ll be honest, it’s actually pretty good.
Walmart is also selling the game for $60, but as an exclusive steelbook edition.
If you’ve got an Xbox One, I’d recommend spending $10 on Red Dead Redemption, which doesn’t look quite as pretty but I’d argue is the overall better game.
And that’s what we’re working with. Nothing huge on this game, which isn’t surprising: it’s a recent release and Rockstar isn’t really a prolific discounter. Still, go for that little cup. It’s a good little cup!
