What a fun surprise this morning has been. Epic Games and 2K/Gearbox have dropped a crossover event into Fortnite this morning.
This event includes a new Pandora-themed Rift Zone in the desert—not the return of Moisty Mires as predicted by many. Pretty cool! (Moisty Mires wasn’t a great location to begin with, and Pandora has fun cell-shading graphics like the Borderlands games).
The ‘Fortnite X Mayhem’ event never really mentions Borderlands 3 by name, but it’s clearly just that. You can even pre-order Borderlands 3 to get a bunch of the cosmetics for free.
Some of the cosmetics you can also earn through completing six new challenges that went live earlier this morning. Here’s the full list of free challenges available in Fortnite during this event:
- Collect Cash from Chests and opponents in Pandora (10)
- Eliminate opponents in Pandora (3)
- Search Chests in Pandora (7)
- Find Claptrap’s missing eye and then return it to him (2)
- Gain shields in Pandora (500)
- Search different Vault Symbols (3)
Here are the cosmetic rewards you can earn for completing these missions:
A couple sprays, a wrap and an icon . . . isn’t a ton, but hey they’re all free, and they get players to explore the Pandora Rift Zone—making that area extra deadly today, no doubt.
This may be the coolest Rift Zone added to the game so far. Tilted Town would be, but the lack of building or breaking in that zone renders it fairly useless, unfortunately. The Borderlands 3 event lasts two weeks, ending on September 10th.
