The Panthers are all in.
After swinging a blockbuster deal with the Chicago Bears for the No. 1 overall pick Friday, Carolina is now in a position to take whoever they want in next month’s draft. While it’s not 100 percent confirmed, that player will likely be a young quarterback. It’s just a shame that receiver D.J. Moore won’t be there for the signal caller.
But who do head coach Frank Reich and a new Panthers regime want to build around? Who might they stake their future on as they begin a rebuild in earnest?
Let’s take a look at some of the top QB options for Carolina in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Bryce Young, Alabama
Arguably the most polished of anyone in this class, the only genuine concern with Young might be his listed size (5-foot-10, 204 pounds). But it’s a new NFL era. Young has the poise and the playmaking ability to thrive at the next level.
C.J. Stroud, Ohio State
The consensus second-best quarterback for most, Stroud is a classic pocket passer. Though, his performance against Georgia in the College Football Playoff suggests he has a more compelling presence outside the pocket than we originally believed.
Anthony Richardson, Florida
The unquestioned winner of the Combine, Richardson’s physical tools will be intriguing for many teams needing a QB. He might need to sit for a little while as he refines his passing, but the raw mold for success is definitely there.
Will Levis, Kentucky
Another QB prospect heavy on projection, if the 6-foot-4, 229-pound Levis lands in the right spot, success could be in his future. Prospective teams will undoubtedly need to take their time with him, too.
Hendon Hooker, Tennessee
In his final season with the Volunteers, Hooker was instrumental in a resurgent 11-2 campaign. He’s probably more of a longshot than most to be the top pick. That doesn’t even take into account that he’s 25 years old. But the talent and resume are there if the Panthers want Hooker.
