Here are 45 holiday destinations Brits could be able to enjoy quarantine-free

For many Brits, holidaying in the sunshine is the highlight of their year - especially if you live somewhere where there's no guarantee of a summer (Scotland).

While the UK Foreign Office is still advising against all-but-essential travel, countries are easing lockdown measures and Matt Hancock even gave an "optimistic" update on summer holidays amid the pandemic.

And, now ministers have been provided with a list of 45 countries that should be prioritised for quarantine-free links with the UK, KentLive reports.

The UK Government have been criticised for controversial plans to introduce a 14-day quarantine period on anyone arriving in the UK from 8 June, with more than 200 travel and hospitality businesses calling on ministers to scrap the scheme.

In response, airlines have drawn up a list of nations that could establish air corridors with the UK and top holiday destinations - including Spain, Greece, Cyprus and Portugal - are among the European countries included.

Places further afield in the Caribbean, Canada and the United States were also on the list.

A Whitehall source told a national newspaper: "A lot of [the list] is focused on short-haul leisure – popular holiday locations and places where people might fly to see friends and family. We’d want to see as many as possible set up by the end of the month.

"The Government requested the airlines send it in, so they could have a sense of where the volume and demand would be. It’s quite a contrast to a week and a half ago, when Downing Street played down the idea of air bridges."

Airlines that contributed to the index want the first air bridges to be set up by the end of June, as they plan on resuming flights to the destinations around early July.

It comes after Easyjet said they would restart Edinburgh flights in June, while rival budget airline Ryanair have said their planes will be back in the skies by July.

Meanwhile, holiday giant TUI has cancelled all holidays until July 1 and cruises until August - and these cancellations are now expected to continue further into the year.
