Here are 16 of the most romantic places to propose in Dublin this Valentine's Day

Valentine’s Day is next week and some of our readers may be thinking of popping the question.

And for ladies hoping to ask their beloved to marry them, it's a leap year and this is your chance to finally tie him down.

Dublin is no stranger to charming spots so there's a variety of places to choose from.

So if you’re thinking of putting a ring on it, here's a list of the best places to propose in the capital.

1) Sandymount Strand

Dublin may not be famous for its beaches, but Sandymount Strand is really something special.

You’ll find the odd dog-walker or jogger here, but it’s usually very tranquil, so you and your boo will have some privacy.

2) Croke Park

Take your relationship to the next level (literally) by spending Valentine’s Day on the roof of Croke Park while taking in the panoramic views of Dublin’s skyline.

Croke Park’s Ericsson Skyline Dusk Tour is offering the chance to a limited number of couples on Friday, February 14 at 4.30pm.

3)Trinity College

Walk the footsteps of Oscar Wilde and Samuel Beckett at Trinity College.

Right in the centre of Dublin, the university’s secluded rose garden, majestic Old Library and impressive architecture combine to make it one of the most enchanting spots in the city.

4) Poolbeg Lighthouse

The 1768 lighthouse sits in the Dublin Bay and looks gorgeous with its star red colour against the deep blue of the ocean.

5) Iveagh Gardens

Despite hosting several different events during the summer, Iveagh Gardens is a much more relaxed and intimate park than Stephen’s Green.

With fountains, a waterfall, quaint winding paths and even a hedge maze, it’s an ideal setting for a proposal.

6) Howth Head

Windswept and unspoilt, it’s not hard to see why Ireland’s rich and famous are clamouring to live in Howth.

Go for a walk around the Cliff Path Loop before popping the question - the spectacular views will make it very hard to say no.

7) Phoenix Park

Get lost with your other half in Phoenix Park - the largest walled park of any European capital city.

Take a trip to the zoo, rent some bikes or bring a picnic and watch the sun go down - and make sure you have some champagne for when he/she says yes!

8) Whitefriar’s Church

What better place to propose than in the presence of St Valentine himself?

The relics of the patron saint of lovers will be watching as you ask your sweetheart to spend the rest of their life with you.

9) Dun Laoghaire Pier

The classic long romantic walk down the beach can never go wrong.

With its stunning sea views, Dun Laoghaire is the perfect place to pop the question. And you can get some gorgeous photos too!

10) Royal Hospital Kilmainham

The Royal Hospital Kilmainham has hosted the Irish Museum of Modern Art since 1991, so there are plenty of interesting sculptures dotted around to impress art-lovers. With a huge cobbled courtyard and stunning manicured gardens, it’s a wonderful slice of historical Dublin.

11) The Gravity Bar

The Guinness Storehouse is not just for tourists! Show your partner that the sky’s the limit when it comes to your love by proposing in the famous Gravity Bar, which offers amazing 360 views over the city.

12) A private cinema

Glasnevin’s Botanic Gardens boast a rose garden, rockery, arboretum, and several gorgeous Greenhouses. It’s free to enter and you can spend hours here among the lilies and Willow trees.

14) Dublin Castle

If your sweetheart is the type that likes all eyes on them, a proposal on the Ha’penny Bridge might be just the thing.

He/she definitely won’t be expecting it, and you’re likely to get lots of applause and congratulations from excited tourists.
