Herd of cows filmed in lockdown stampede down residential street, one with a chair on its head

There have been a number of reports of wildlife turning up in unexpected places emptied of humans by the coronavirus lockdown.

There were the sheep that set up camp at an empty McDonald's in Ebbw Vale, the goats wandering the streets of Llandudno, and the ewes that chose to make use of a deserted children's playground in Raglan.

Now cows have been getting in on the act and stretching their legs a little in Gower.

Their roaming, however, turned into a stampede in Southgate, and one had even managed to bring some furniture with it.

The unusual site was caught on camera by 12-year-old Noah Williamson, who together with his brother had to make way for around a dozen cows galloping down the road.

Pictured bringing up the rear of the herd was a black and white cow, which had somehow managed to get a plastic chair caught around its neck.

Noah’s mother Stephanie said: “Noah was with his older brother Sam and I’m just glad they had the sense to stay out of the way in someone’s drive to avoid the stampede.

“The cow with the chair on its head has given us all a good giggle though, and the cow has since had the chair removed, so it is fine and there’s no harm done”.

Angharad Williams, whose family owns the cows and keeps them a short distance away in Hael Lane, confirmed the unfortunate cow was left unharmed from the incident.

She said: “The cows roam, and we got the call from someone down Sandy Lane that there was a cow with a chair on its head .

“My uncle who owns the cows was out on a job somewhere, so I went over to have a look down Sandy Lane, but had calls from people that they had stampeded their way back through Southgate and towards the fields - they know their way home.

“The cow was fine. He pulled it off himself on the way down to Pwll Du beach”.
