Two of contemporary jazz’s greats are to tour together, for the first time in 37 years. Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea are to play a series of shows in the US and Europe, with dates in Asia and Australasia expected to be added.

The two keyboard legends toured together in 1978, when both were also leading hugely popular jazz rock bands – Hancock’s Headhunters and Corea’s Return to Forever. On those shows they played side-by-side on acoustic grand pianos, and recorded two live albums – Corea Hancock and An Evening with Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock: In Concert.

There have been appearances together since – they played side-by-side at the Umbria jazz festival in 2013, for example – but this is their first full tour since the 1978 outing.

Hancock said he was “very excited” about the tour, and that the two men were “like family without the arguments” with “compatible outlooks on life and music”.

The tour kicks off in Seattle on 14 March, and comes to the Barbican in London on 6 July. Full details here.
