'Her friends have passed': local woman asks people to send Christmas cards to her 92-year-old Gran

A loving granddaughter has appealed to locals to make her Gran's Christmas extra special this year.

Leo Sheppard, from Fife, hopes to put a huge smile on her Gran, Nancy's face this year by asking others to send her a Christmas card.

In what has been a tough year for many, Nancy, who is 92 years old, will be spending a lot of the festive period alone, along with many others who are vulnerable to the virus.

"Her cards are everything to her."

Speaking about her idea, Leo said that she hopes to give her a "Christmas to remember", adding:

"I wanted to do something special for my gran, over the past five years most of her friends have passed and her little strings for her cards are not filling up as much.

"Her cards are everything to her, and because 2020 has been so poor I wondered if people can send her a Christmas card."

Born in 1928, Nancy worked preparing camouflage nets during the war, and has also met the likes of Danny la Rue, Noel Edmunds and Ken Dodd while working at the City Varieties Music Hall in Leeds.

Now, Nancy is partially blind with limited hearing, but is still managing to cope well on her own and live independently.

Describing her Gran, Leo joked:

"She's a great, great grandmother and is very independent in her own home, she still cooks a mean steak pie and stovies, and kicks a** when needed."

To brighten Nancy's Christmas, anyone who wishes to send her a card has been asked to post it using the following name and address, the cards will then be collected from that house and given to her by the family:
