Henry Nicholls century puts New Zealand in control of second Test against England

  • England had a difficult day three at the Oval on Friday as New Zealand took complete control of the second Test .
  • Resuming on 222-6 in reply to New Zealand’s 391, England managed to fight their way to 291 all out thanks to a half-century from Matthew Fisher, but still had a first-innings deficit of 100.
  • New Zealand openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway fell early in the visitors’ second innings, but a big partnership between Henry Nicholls and Rachin Ravindra put the Kiwis well on top.
  • Ravindra eventually fell for 76, but Nicholls went on to hit his 11th Test century, while Daryl Mitchell finished the day 32 not out as New Zealand closed on 252-3, a lead of 352.
  • England have it all to do in the final two days, with New Zealand closing in on levelling the three-match series.
