This Valentine’s Day Henry Holland didn't write a love letter to his new husband or adorable dog but, instead, to merino wool.
The designer's brand, House of Holland, released its first full capsule collection with The Woolmark Company, centred around the sustainable material.
“What The Woolmark Company does is a really good initiative, promoting the use of wool," Holland told the Standard. "We’re very consciously trying to become much more sustainable in our practises, from the base clothes that we use to manufacturing techniques and merino is a really eco-friendly, fully biodegradable fabrication."
Noting that sustainability is growing increasingly significant in the industry, Henry added: “It’s an issue that is becoming very important to the younger generation, so I think the more people who enter into the creative industry the more it’s going to be at the forefront of their manifesto and how they want to approach their work.”
Although many associate merino wool with a good old-fashioned woolly jumper, Henry explored the versatility of the environmentally-friendly fabric, adding modern twists all bursting with House of Holland’s signature playful and personality-driven aesthetic.
“We wanted to create a collection with lots of different, newer ways of using wool as a fabric,“ he said.
The collection is brimming with different textures and iterations. A few of the highlights include two striking red heart hoodies, a sleek tailored suit and a wool denim two-set.
Although the collection has nothing to do with Valentine’s Day, it is fittingly adorned with love hearts, so we couldn't help but ask Henry which item he fell in love with at first sight? "The red tuxedo with the black satin lapel," he said.
As for which one you should wear on a date night? ”Oh, definitely the tight red dress.”
