Henry Cejudo warns ‘Cody Garbage’ about potential flyweight move

Henry Cejudo says Cody Garbrandt can’t avoid a fight with him, even if he leaves the bantamweight division to move down to flyweight.

Garbrandt (11-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC), the former UFC champ at 135 pounds, which is now held by Cejudo (15-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC), revealed on Saturday that he intends to drop a weight class after his next fight.

Naturally Cejudo, who used to own the now-vacant flyweight strap, as well, caught wind of the news and escalated the situation on social media (via Twitter):

I own that weight class too! No where to hide @Cody_Nolove #bendtheknee

Garbrandt is riding a three-fight losing skid and hasn’t won since he claimed UFC gold in December 2016. He was scheduled to fight Raphael Assuncao at the since-postponed UFC on ESPN 8 event this past month, and said he still wants to make that matchup happen.

“No Love” clearly has an eye on Cejudo, though, be it at 135 or 125 pounds.

We will see you. If you are calling the shots and picking your fights. Then I’ll see you soon. We all know when you’re the champ you call the shots. No easy way out for you at any weight class.

Although there appears to be a level of friction between the two sides, there is some common ground between Cejudo and Garbrandt. Both men are represented by Ali Abdelaziz and Dominance MMA, and Abdelaziz’s name was dragged into the conversation as the two fighters wrapped up their Twitter beef (via Twitter):

Cejudo is currently scheduled to defend his UFC title against Jose Aldo at UFC 250 on May 9. With the fight just over one month away and coronavirus pandemic continuing to impact the sports world, the status of that event and fight remain in limbo.
