Henry Cavill hints at being next James Bond in cryptic interview

Henry Cavill hinted at being the next James Bond as speculation continues about the next 007.

The English actor is coming off the success of season two of The Witcher on Netflix in which he plays the titular monster hunter.

The gossip mill and bookies have been abuzz about who will next take on the character long before Daniel Craig 's departure.

Bridgerton's breakout star Regé-Jean Page is the top favourite for bookies followed by Tom Hardy.

Scottish actor Richard Madden comes in at third following his turn in the Marvel blockbuster The Eternals. Cavill squeaks in at fourth place.

Cavill addressed the rumours in a recent interview.

The Witcher star was recently asked about the Bond rumours in an interview with The Times.

Cavill said he already tried out as 007 in 2006 as a 23-year-old, but was told to lose weight after filming a test scene where he walked out of the shower.

Speaking to The Times, he said: "Time will tell. You don’t know which direction they want to take Bond in and so I like to say that everything’s always on the table."

The Witcher actor speculated that the age of the next Bond is up in the air.

"It depends," said Cavill when asked about similarities of the secret agent to his role in the upcoming spy film Argylle.

"We could be talking about Daniel’s Bond, or whoever the next Bond is . . . They will probably be in their thirties or forties — or early forties. Maybe they’ll even go younger, like they were considering with me when it was down to me and Daniel."

Craig wrapped up his 15 year run as the iconic British spy in his fifth film, 2020's No Time to Die, which Cavill said he hasn't seen.

Regardless of who plays Bond next, Cavill will continue to star in The Witcher which has been renewed for a third series.

The second series was released in December, garnering 2.2 billion viewing minutes in its first week.

A total of 76 million households streamed the first series of the popular Netflix show which launched in December 2019.
