Henry Boot secures planning permission for massive warehouse in Wakefield

Construction and property firm Henry Boot has gained planning permission to build a massive 2m sq ft distribution warehouse in Wakefield.

The joint application was made by Newmarket Lane Ltd and Mountpark and its approval means that building work can begin on the site in May. Newmarket Lane is itself a joint venture between Henry Boot Developments and Yorkcourt.

The work will include building a new spine road through the scheme and extensive landscaping. Once completed it is expected that the warehouse will lead to the creation of around 1,500 jobs.

Ed Hutchinson, managing director of Henry Boot Developments, said: “We are very pleased that the planning committee has approved the application for this latest development at Wakefield Hub - it’s brilliant news for Wakefield and is a huge vote of confidence in the city as a place to invest.”

The new warehouse will sit within Wakefield Hub, a 200-acre industrial and logistics scheme, which has been designed to be a prime location for manufacturers and logistic firms. The site offers good access to the M62, M1 and A1 and is one of the largest regeneration projects of its kind in the UK.

The project aims to redevelop the former Newmarket Colliery site and is expected to create thousands of new jobs and help revitalise the local economy in Wakefield.

In total Wakefield Hub will consist of six plots of land and NewCold Advanced Logisitic already occupies a building on the site.

Another site is currently under construction which will eventually become home to Kitwave. The building received planning permission in 2019.
