Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan hoping to put injury woe behind him

Henrikh Mkhitaryan hopes he has put his injury disappointment behind him after making a belated return to action in Arsenal’s abandoned Under-23s game against West Ham.

The 30-year-old has not appeared since 19 December after suffering a fractured metatarsal in his right foot and the Gunners’ medical staff have been cautious in reintroducing him to competitive action over the past fortnight.

Mkhitaryan was only able to play 45 minutes last night as the match at Boreham Wood was called off due to poor visibility as fog enveloped the stadium.

Arsenal were leading 3-0 at the time through goals from Eddie Nketiah, Joe Willock and Konstantinos Mavropanos and Mkhitaryan told the club’s official website: “I hope that I won't have any more injuries and I will keep playing.

“Unfortunately, we didn't end up finishing the game. The game was called off but it was a great first half. I think we did very well.

"We could improve in some aspects but we scored three goals, were playing very good football and could've scored more.

“I'm thankful to everyone who has been working with me. To the medical staff, to the fitness coach and everyone, even to my team-mates. They were supporting me every day.

“It's life, everything is happening and you can get injured or something like that. I hope that no one gets injured anymore and the team can be fully fit for the next games.”

Mkhitaryan will hope he has done enough to earn a first-team recall for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Huddersfield.
