Henrik Larsson says Jackie McNamara 'needs all the love we can give him'

Henrik Larsson says Jackie McNamara "needs all the love we can give him" as he urged his former Celtic team-mate to keep battling.

McNamara was fighting for life in a York hospital on Monday night after undergoing emergency surgery for a bleed on his brain, reports The Daily Record.

The 46-year-old collapsed collapsed outside his family home on Saturday.

Former team-mates and fans from across the football world have since united in support of the ex-Scotland international.

And Larsson, who played alongside McNamara at Parkhead for seven years, is the latest to send his best wishes.

The iconic Swede posted a picture of his pal on Instagram with the accompanying message: "He needs all the love we can give him. @jackiemac4 keep on fighting."

McNamara's close friend Simon Donnelly has been prevented from attending his bedside having been stranded on storm-beaten Arran.

High winds have prevented ferries travelling to and from the mainland since Saturday.

On Monday night, McNamara's daughter issued an update on his condition via her father's Twitter account.

She wrote: "This is Jackie’s daughter. Thank you for all your kind words and support.

"My dad is getting the best care possible, as you can all understand this is difficult for us as a family and request privacy at this time."
