Help the Hungry: Volunteers celebrate multi-million pound support in fight against food poverty

Volunteers from The Felix Project and With Compassion have celebrated as we announced our Help the Hungry campaign had reached its £10 million target.

Since March, The Felix Project has worked with The Independent on sourcing and redistributing fresh food to some of our nation’s most vulnerable, while With Compassion have been responsible for the free hot meals served from our state-of-the-art food truck over the Christmas period.

Justin Byam Shaw, Founder of the Felix Project, said: “We have been flooded with new volunteers over the past few months as people responded to the crisis. Together with our amazing existing volunteers, they have and will enable us to make this extraordinary £10m really count.”

Mark Curtin, Felix’s CEO, added: “We are incredibly proud of the collective efforts of all the people who have made this campaign so successful. The pandemic has had a devastating and profound impact on thousands of lives, and the community spirit and collective efforts of so many committed and passionate individuals has been inspiring and humbling to experience.”

“Thank you and congratulations to everyone who helps The Felix Project tackle the hunger crisis. You are all true role models and heroes.”

Marcus Roberts, Relationship Manager at Felix, expressed his delight at the target being raised.

“It’s been so incredible seeing the work that so many people are willing to put in in their own time to help those less fortunate. Our campaign would be nothing without our volunteers, and everyone involved with Felix should be hugely proud of what we’ve achieved.”

For With Compassion’s founder, Leon Aarts, public support for the nation’s vulnerable people has been crucial.

“Our volunteers have been the beating heart of With Compassion,” he said. “Without hundreds of volunteers giving their time, effort and commitment we wouldn’t have been able to cook thousands of meals every day. Their passion ensures that our meals are not only nutritious, we also pride ourselves that they are delicious.”
