Help needed to purchase new pads for life-saving defibrillators in Lanarkshire

Members of the Bothwell and Uddingston community are being asked to make a small donation towards purchasing new pads for a number of life-saving defibrillators spread throughtout the area.

Those who run the popular G71 Bothwell and Uddingston Community Forum on Facebook worked tirelessly last year to fundraise, along with several kind-hearted donations from local people and groups, to have five of the heart start equipment installed at various locations in the town and village.

Remarkably, the defibs have already been accessed a number of times saving several lives.

Now, however, new pads are needed for the equipment but these come at a cost and therefore people are being asked to contribute a small donation to able to buy the pads as soon as possible.

Allan Stewart who runs the community Facebook page said: "Hi everyone, we need to replace some pads that are expiring and replenish some pads that have been used over the last few months.

"Please, if you can, consider making a donation to this cause or indeed if you'd prefer you can purchase a set of pads direct for around £48, alternatively check out the G71 Bothwell and Uddingston page for more details and link to the donation page.

"I cannot stress enough how much of an asset these pieces of life-saving equipment are within our community. Already we know that they have been accessed several times over the last 12 months and without them who knows the outcome for some people!"

Six lifesaving defibrillators have now been placed in permanent positions throughout Bothwell and Uddingston.

The defibs, five of which have 24-hour access,

They are available within the car park at Cut Fish, Bothwell, Bothwell Parish Church Centre main car park, Uddingston Bowling Club outside wall, Special Days Cakes at the main and at the entrance to Wm Livingstone garage main showroom.

Another is situated within WY Graham Pharmacy, 8 Market Street, Viewpark, which is available during opening hours.

Each apparatus comes with full instructions on the wall and once opened the defibrillator will talk to users and explain what to do.
