Help celebrate your community by becoming an Area Ambassador

A small army of people from all around the UK are celebrating the little things that make their communities such proud places.

And you could join them.

Area Ambassadors are using the free local news and community network InYourArea.co.uk to shout about the things that make their neighbourhoods unique, keep neighbours informed, involved and up-to-date, as well as sharing updates about local issues, good causes, opportunities to help others, and so much more.

There are more than 170 Area Ambassadors all over the country and InYourArea is looking for more.

It’s as simple as registering on the site, which uses your postcode to give you a unique feed of news, updates and information only relevant to where you live, and starting to post.

You can be sure your posts will only reach people in your community, which means spreading good news or highlighting certain issues is seen by the people to whom it is most relevant.

What is InYourArea?

It’s a platform built around local, community news and information.

Users enter their postcode and InYourArea does the rest, delivering you a regularly updated feed of online articles, the latest coronavirus numbers for your area, properties for sale, planning applications, crime statistics and police updates, school ratings, items for sale and so much more that is only locally relevant to you.

By registering with your email address, you can also get the latest about your neighbourhood straight to your inbox every day.

What do Area Ambassadors do?

Area Ambassadors use InYourArea to start conversations and keep people informed of the things that aren’t perhaps making headlines elsewhere.

They are community champions who are proud of where they live and are doing their little bit to spread that and keep others informed.

Andrew Cleminson is an Area Ambassador for Croydon and regularly posts about local initiatives people can get involved in.

Steph Thompson, an Area Ambassador for Westgate-on-Sea, often uses it to start conversations about her part of the world and get people involved.

Others have used it to start petitions about local issues that need addressing and to offer help to the vulnerable or self-isolating through the coronavirus pandemic.

How to get involved

If you think it’s something of interest to you, you can find out more about some existing Area Ambassadors here, and sign up here. You’ll be invited to join a no-obligation introductory Zoom call with the InYourArea team who will talk you through more details about the scheme and answer any questions.
