HelloFresh, the healthy meal kit delivery firm, revealed on Tuesday that it saw revenues more than double year-on-year to €3.75 billion in 2020 as locked-down consumers looked for new ways to make home cooking fun.

The German firm, which has a London base and has expanded worldwide, said it delivered more than 600 million meals and saw its active customer base grow to 5.3 million by end December - and the company is convinced this is not just a lockdown one-off.

The firm said it expects revenues to grow by 20-25% on a constant basis in 2021. It has plans to scale, and recently completed acquisitions in Chicago, and launched in Denmark.

Co-founder and chief executive, Dominik Richter, said: “Preparing and eating food at home has taken on a whole new meaning.

“As the pandemic hopefully winds down over the course of 2021, we expect consumers to continue to rely on e-commerce solutions to shop for food, as many have experienced the superior value proposition that we can offer in terms of price, variety and convenience.”

He added: “Going forward, we want to further expand our offering and become the leading food solutions group globally.”
