The police helicopter was called out to search for a walker who got lost as darkness fell on the Pentland Hills.

A total of 19 members of the mountain rescue team were mobilised for the search, but they were able to stay in contact by mobile phone.

A searchlight was used on Police Scotland's helicopter to help the rescue team find their way to the walker.

They were cold but uninjured and were walked back to safety by the rescue team.

The incident has to to Tweed Valley Mountain rescue reminding hillwalkers of the dangers darker nights can bring.

Posting on Facebook, they said: "This incident highlights that dark nights are upon us and even ‘easy’ ventures into the outdoors can result in the unexpected – whatever your chosen outdoor activity please plan for your day and carry the appropriate equipment."
