Helicopter mountain rescue after man suffers suspected heart attack on Goatfell

A helicopter was scrambled to Ayrshire's highest peak today after a man suffered a suspected heart attack.

Rescuers descended on Goatfell on the Isle of Arran just before 3pm to offer assistance to the man.

The Arran Mountain Rescue Team deployed two Argo Cats to the casualty's location on the 2,867ft mountain.

Rescuers then assessed the casualty before packing him up and he was carried on a stretcher before being evacuated to hospital for treatment.

A statement on the Arran Mountain Rescue Team Facebook page reads: "The team were called out at approximately 2.45pm this afternoon to assist a gentleman having a suspected heart attack on Goatfell.

"Two Argo Cats were used to transport team members to the casualty's location and four team members were flown up to assist the winchman.

"After assessing and packing the casualty he was carried in a stretcher to the helicopter and evacuated to hospital for further treatment.

"We wish the casualty a speedy recovery and thanks to everyone involved for their help."
