A helicopter made an emergency landing Wednesday morning in Prospect Heights, near the Chicago Executive Airport, coming to rest on Milwaukee Avenue.

The pilot, alone in the helicopter, crash landed about 6:40 a.m. near Milwuakee Avenue and Apple Drive, just south of the airport, according to the Prospect Heights Police Department.

He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, according to a statement from the airport. The cause of the emergency was not immediately known.

The airport was closed for some time after the crash but has resumed normal operations, officials said.

Southbound lanes on Milwuakee Avenue between Palatine and Des Plains River roads reopened at 7:30 a.m. Northbound lanes remained closed.

The Prospect Heights Fire Protection District and the Wheeling Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. The incident is under investigation.
