Helicopter dispatched to Kilmarnock as police chase high-speed stolen car

A helicopter was dispatched to a high-speed car chase through Kilmarnock earlier this week.

Police were trying to stop a plush car that appeared to be driving at excessive speeds.

But the car failed to stop and officers engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle. A force chopper was also drafted into the chase.

The abandoned grey Mercedes A-Class was later discovered by cops at Sunnyside Square in the town.

Police then discovered that the motor was stolen. Officers are now working to identify those involved in the police chase.

Inspector Greg Dinnie, of the road policing unit, said: "During a routine road patrol officers became aware of a grey Mercedes A-Class being driven at excessive speeds on Main Road, Crookedholm, around 7.50pm on Wednesday, April 22.

"A vehicle pursuit then took place as officers attempted to stop the car which was later discovered abandoned in Sunnyside Square in Kilmarnock.

"Other police units, including the police helicopter, attended to assist.

"It was later established the Mercedes was a stolen vehicle and further enquiries are now ongoing to identify those involved.

"Anyone within information should contact police on 101 quoting incident number 3480 of 22 April 2020."
