Helicopter dispatched after high-speed pursuit leads to crash

A helicopter was dispatched in the search for a vehicle involved in a high speed pursuit which crashed into a police car.

The incident happened in Hucknall at around 12am on Monday, August 30 when police say a car failed to stop and was driving dangerously.

After the car was stopped on Robin Hood Drive, which led to a "slight" collision with a police vehicle, the force say the offender ran on foot into nearby gardens.

A helicopter and drone was used to search for them - no arrests have yet been made.

Police say the incident was "reckless and dangerous" and put people's lives in danger - they are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

Inspector Tim Ringer, from Nottinghamshire Police said: “Police were involved in a high speed pursuit just after midnight yesterday, Monday, August 30 after a car failed to stop. The vehicle was driving dangerously at excessive speeds.

“The car was eventually stopped on Robin Hood Drive through a proactive tactical pursuit manoeuvre, which led to a slight collision with a police car. There are no reported injuries.

“The offender then fled the scene and ran into nearby gardens. Officers continued the chase on foot, aided by the police drone and helicopter, to locate the driver and enquiries are ongoing.

“This kind of situation is reckless and dangerous and puts lives in danger and we will always take evasive action to prevent further risk to life.”

If anyone has any information relating to the incident please contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident 12 of 30 August 2021, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
