Two people have been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a helicopter made an emergency landing in Salt Ash on Saturday afternoon.
Emergency crews were called to Tilligerry Creek, off Lemon Tree Passage and Rookes road, about 2.30pm following reports of a helicopter crash.
The chopper was forced to make an emergency landing in mangroves on the edge of Tilligerry Creek due to technical difficulties, NSW Police said in a statement.
Police said the two male occupants on board the helicopter suffered minor injuries and were taken to John Hunter Hospital for further assessment.
Port Stephens SES Unit also responded to the incident.
"Initial reports were that the helicopter was in the water," the SES unit, based in Raymond Terrace, said.
"SES Port Stephens Rescue activated our Swiftwater technicians with out boat on our fourth vehicle along with [Lemon Tree Passage] Marine Rescue.
"The two occupants were located off Marsh Road by Westpac Rescue Helicopter."
Officers from Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established a crime scene and began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
An operation to recover the aircraft has been started, police said.
