Helicopter and police presence after woman mown down by car

A woman has been rushed to hospital after being mown down by a car.

The collision occurred in Hunts Cross near the junction of Hillfoot Avenue and Woodend Avenue at around 5pm today.

An air ambulance was seen landing on Hunts Cross School playing fields and Merseyside Police have put road closures in place on Woodend Avenue.

A spokesman for the force said the woman pedestrian was hit by a Vauxhall Insignia.

He said: "Officers were called to Hillfoot Avenue just after 5pm after receiving reports that a Vauxhall Insignia car had collided with a woman pedestrian.


"Emergency Services attended and the woman is being taken to hospital for treatment.

"Road closures are currently in place on Woodend Avenue and motorists are advised to avoid the area. 

"The driver has stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries."

One witness said: "Helicopter landed on Hunts Cross school play ground.

"The man stopped he was coming out of a slip road and hit her. He stopped further down. Doesn’t look good."
