A Helensburgh football club have used their new kits to thank NHS staff for their work during the pandemic.
Ardencaple FC’s girls teams recently took delivery of new kit carrying the Thank You NHS logo.
Staff representing both the Millig Practice and Dr McLachlan and Partners’ practice in the town turned up to cheer on the girls at a training session.
Caple Chairman, Craig Holborn commented on the background to this special relationship.
He said: “Under normal circumstances, we are always so very grateful to all of our club sponsors, typically local businesses that provide funds to support events or to buy strips for our various age-groups.
“This is a wee bit different though.
“Given the recent challenges that we have all faced with the Covid pandemic, we just wanted to say a massive thanks to our NHS and particularly to all of our local doctors, nurses and support staff that have worked tirelessly to keep us safe.”
Craig added that Caple in its own way was following the example set by FC Barcelona, who didn’t have a shirt sponsor for 107 years from the club’s inception.
That all changed back in 2006 when they finally agreed to wear the UNICEF logo - but instead of generating revenue for the club, Barcelona actually raised money for the children’s fund.
He explained “We have shown our appreciation by funding the kit ourselves so that we can proudly wear the NHS logo and further reinforcing our gratitude in the form of six boxes of cupcakes which I delivered last week, prepared and beautifully presented by Victoria’s Cake Away.”

Ardencaple are working closely with the SFA to improve participation levels across all types of grassroots football and is looking forward to the imminent launch of its Caple Girls Academy.
Any girls keen on trying out football are welcome to come along to training sessions which take place at Hermitage Academy on Thursday evenings from 6pm until 7pm and matches are played on Sundays.
