Helensburgh pier tragedy victim Charmaine O'Donnell's heartbreaking lockdown message

A young Scots woman who tragically died after an incident at Helensburgh Pier was looking forward to lockdown easing and reduced restrictions.

Charmaine O'Donnell had posted a status on Facebook encouraging all of her friends to be "social butterflies" when lockdown lifted.

The emotional post detailed the things the 25-year-old was looking forward to the most as the list included a "cold pint of dark fruits".

Charmaine wrote: "Imagine your first gym sesh, first sun bed, first haircut, first shopping exp for a new rig out rather than doing it online, first hospitality exp other than take aways (aw naw the build up is where it’s really at) then the pub, sitting w a ice cold pint a dark fruits.

"Banging music, good atmosphere and great company, hopefully we remain grateful and appreciate it this time around as we’ve been stripped of all the look good feel good factors as well as our social lives and even better it’s happening in the summer.

"Maybe this is the summer we’ve all been waiting for, for a long time! I encourage you to be social butterflies."

Charmaine was pulled from the water at Helensburgh Pier on Friday evening after emergency services were called around 5pm.

Police Scotland confirmed a 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the investigation.

A crowdfunding page has been launched to raise money for Charmaine's family and a memorial has been planned for next week.
