Helena Bonham Carter wows on BAFTA TV Awards red carpet in polka dot gown and scrunchie

Helena Bonham Carter was the star of the show when she made her arrival on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet on Sunday.

The Harry Potter actress, 55, looked incredible in a floor-sweeping grey and black polka dot gown that featured a tight bodice and chiffon sleeves.

Her stunning dress featured ruffles down the skirt and a long train that followed along behind her, which featured two loops on the side to make it easier to carry.

She showed off her trademark quirky style by wearing her short brunette hair in a messy ponytail that was held together by a black scrunchie.

In her ears, Helena sported an eye-catching pair of black dangling earrings.

She finished the look off by donning a pair of small black sunglasses, which no doubt protected her eyes from the bright sunshine that shone on Sunday afternoon.

For her makeup, Helena wore a coat of bright red lipstick that complimented her fair skin tone.

The film star had a big grin on her face as she played around for the cameras on the red carpet.

She posed with her hands on her hips at the glitzy event, which was held at the Television Centre in London this weekend.

Helena also gave the cameras a good view of her dress by holding it up by the loops on either side.

Her date for the evening was her boyfriend Rye Holmboe and the duo looked loved-up as they posed for photos together.

She has been dating the Norwegian writer for a couple of years.

Helena is nominated for the Supporting Actress gong at the 2021 BAFTA TV Awards for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in Netflix series The Crown.

The actress thought it was "odd timing" to be depicting the late royal's love affair with Roddy Llewellyn, who was 17 years Margaret's junior, when she had just begun dating Rye, who is 21 years her junior.

Helena told The Times in a recent interview : " It was odd timing that I seem to have a similar age gap as her, but I think it would have happened whether I was playing her or not."

She added: "Everybody ages at a different rate. My boyfriend is unbelievably mature.

"He's an old soul in a young body, what more could I want?

"People are slightly frightened of older women, but he isn't.

"Women can be very powerful when they're older.

"Why can't we be sexually and romantically attractive just when our eggs are expired?

"Actually it's much more fun because we're so freed of the terror, there is no consequence, it's all just for fun."
