Helena Bonham Carter reveals Harvey Weinstein made a pass at her by trying to give her a 'neck massage'

Helena Bonham Carter shared her own Harvey Weinstein horror story on a recent episode of journalist and documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux's Grounded podcast.

Bonham Carter claimed the disgraced Hollywood producer tried to give her an unsolicited neck massage, which she felt was a predatory attempt to make a pass at her.

She said she escaped the inappropriate touching by fleeing across the room.

"He literally laid a hand on me, that's all, he was trying to give me a massage of my neck and I knew this wasn't going well so I ran and said no, or got to the other side of the room," she said.

When asked why she didn't tell the story at the height of the Weinstein investigation, she said it was because "I kind of feel everything has been said about him."

The actress said that at the time of the incident, she wasn't aware of Weinstein's history of predatory behaviour.

"I wasn't aware of him pursuing people against their will, I wasn't aware certainly of rape," she said. "I was aware that he would make passes at people and he did make a pass at me and I just said no and that was the end of it."

While she managed to successfully defuse the awkward situation with Weinstein, Bonham Carter said she later saw the producer act in a way she considered "sociopathic."

"He was also a bully and he obviously molested people," she said. "It was partly - I think - sociopathic. I saw him treat some people so badly and there was no compassion there. That was what disturbed me."

Weinstein was found guilty of rape and sexual assault earlier this year, and is currently serving a 23-year sentence in a New York City jail. He was previously imprisoned at Rikers Island, but was transferred to a hospital when he contracted coronavirus in March.
