Helen Skelton's impressive lockdown project as she turns 1850s cottage into dream home

Helen Skelton proudly showed off her lockdown project on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday.

The TV presenter, who fronts BBC's The Instant Gardener, has been busy transforming an 1850s cottage in Leeds into her new family home.

She appeared on the popular talk show on Tuesday morning to reveal the incredible property renovation, which was originally supposed to be a project on the side.

However Helen revealed she and husband Richie Myler couldn't resist the opportunity to turn it into their home.

Before and after snaps of the incredible cottage were shown on Lorraine to Ranvir Singh, with the final result showing a spacious, bright and open kitchen which had been decorated with a coat of stunning green paint.

The gorgeous family kitchen offered plenty of light with brand new skylights.

Doting mother-of-two Helen went all out on the property as she got a local joiner to up the ante by installing a climbing wall in her children's bedroom.

Speaking about the beautiful cottage, she said: "I think in lockdown everybody started to appreciate their four walls and this was an 1850s little cottage that was on the side of a building.

"Do you know what, since we took it on - I've got two kids, they would love a big bedroom each and playrooms and all the rest of it, they haven't got that - what they've got is this quirky, fun cottage that yeah, we were going to do as a project, we just decided to turn [it] into our family home."

ITV's Ranvir responded: "This is great you turned this dilapidated home, your dream home in a way, and turned it into something glorious."

Helen shares her two sons Ernie, five, and Louis, three, with Richie.

Last year, she competed in SAS Who Dares Wins and says it has shown her she is a "badass mum".

She said: "I think before you have kids, you can do what you want, go where you want. Now I have two kids, I'm in a different phase of my life.

"Everything I do is based around the boys and that's how it should be... and it's how I like it.

"But this was a chance for me to be like, OK, Mummy's badass!

"Nobody wants to go to work and leave the kids but at least if I had to do it then it was for something cool."
